POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER’S JUNE KAMAAINA SPECIAL HEATS UP THE FUN BUT COOLS DOWN THE COST Residents invited to get active for less this summer

The Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) is getting an early start on summer with the introduction of its ”Go Native! June Kamaaina Special,” which offers unprecedented value at the top Oahu attraction. For the entire month of June, kamaaina will be admitted to the PCC for the pupule (crazy) price of $15 — that’s nearly a 70 percent savings!

For about the price of a t-shirt, kamaaina can spend a full day at the PCC, experiencing eight island villages and exhibits and trying their hands at the center’s new Go Native! activities. Released just this year, the eight Go Native! activities offer new and often thrilling ways to spend the summer day. There’s something for everyone, whether it’s scaling coconut trees in the Samoan Village, racing outrigger canoes in the lagoon, cooking palusami (young taro leaves cooked in seasoned coconut cream) and faiai eleni (canned mackerel cooked in seasoned coconut milk) in the umu (Samoan above-ground oven), or learning favorite polynesian dishes in demonstrations by resident chefs.

“Summer has arrived, and it’s time to have some fun,” said Raymond Magalei, PCC director of marketing. “The ‘Go Native! June Kamaaina Special’ is an invitation to all residents, from keiki to kūpuna, to experience something you won’t find anywhere else. The whole family will love the activities, and the parents will love the price. Fifteen dollars for a day’s worth of activities is hard to beat.”

In addition to these daily offerings, the PCC will cap off the month with a concert on Saturday, June 25, featuring — for the first time in Hawaii — Allstar Weekend. The group is best known for appearances on Disney Radio’s “Next Big Thing” contest; hit songs “A Different Side Of Me,” “Come Down with Love”; and the group’s newest single, “Not Your Birthday,” from Disney’s feature film Prom, now in theaters. Founded in 1963 as a non-profit organization, the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) has entertained more than 34 million visitors, while preserving and portraying the culture, arts and crafts of Polynesia to the rest of the world. In addition, the PCC has provided financial assistance to nearly 17,000 young people from more than 70 different countries while they attend Brigham Young University-Hawaii. As a non-profit organization, 100 percent of PCC’s revenue is used for daily operations and to support education.
