Government supports Indigenous tourism
The Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP and the Minister for Indigenous Employment and Economic Development, Mark Arbib, have welcomed the announcement of funding for the Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference and the inaugural Pacific Asia Indigenous Tourism Conference. Minister Ferguson said the support for the two conferences on Indigenous tourism in Australia would strengthen business opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism enterprises. “The conferences are an ideal platform for discussions on all aspects of Indigenous tourism directly with tourism operators,” Minister Ferguson said. “Support for these conferences will help meet the Australian Government’s commitment to close the gap in Indigenous disadvantage and complement the work of the Indigenous Working Group, established under the Government’s National Long-Term Tourism Strategy, to improve to maximise the participation of Indigenous Australians in the tourism industry.”
