Here are some of our events taking place this week.
Monday 2 July
Tikau Share\'s Design Helps Pop-up Living Room on Eteläesplanadi, Helsinki, is housing an exhibition showcasing Tikau\'s responsible design projects from around the world. You can also sample treats at the café or do breathing exercises, enjoy a gig – or whatever is on in Living Room\'s daily changing programme. Living Room is open daily 11am-6pm. Read more here.
Tuesday 3 July
Rovaniemi City Library\'s Vitriinigalleria is exhibiting traditional Sámi handicrafts made by members of the Sámi Duodji Association. Read more here.
Wednesday 4 July
Photo exhibition “Vantaa Jinan” opens today at Vantaa Designwindow. Read more here.
The Icecellar, located in Helsinki\'s Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, will today be bringing us Streamline Jazztet\'s swinging jazz sounds and a solo gig by Tuomari Nurmio at its KUKKO club. The club starts at 8pm. Read more here.
Thursday 5 July
Two new summer exhibitions have opened at Helsinki City Hall\'s Virka Gallery. “Hooray for a good start!” is an exhibition exploring the story of the Finnish maternity package, provided by KELA – The Social Insurance Institution of Finland, from past to present. The exhibition “Woodism” is an opportunity to see furniture and accessories made from elms cut down in Kaivopuisto Park in Helsinki. Read more here.
Friday 6 July
Turn Table – The Urban Garden, located at the old Pasila engine bays, serves lunch prepared from vegetables grown in its own garden, Fridays 11.30am–2.30pm. Read more here.
Saturday 7 July
A trip to the Muotohuoltamo Centre, the WDC Helsinki 2012 meeting point in Lahti, is well worth it this summer\'s weekend. Lahti Muotohuoltamo Centre\'s summer exhibition “Juuret” ( Roots) explores the influence of Karelian culture on contemporary design. Read more here.
Sunday 8 July
Sunday is exhibition day!
The Design Museum is the place to go this Sunday. In addition to the museum\'s main exhibition, “Builders of the future”, showcasing the recent history and the “golden age” of Finnish design, the basement gallery, Design Gallery 12, is housing an exhibition that showcases classics and contemporary works by the designers of the Fiskars Cooperative. The exhibition “Fiskars Design Village: New and Classics” will be closing today. Read more here.
The Museum of Finnish Architecture is housing “Finnish Architecture 2010/2011. Projects. Comments. Perspectives”, an exhibition that presents the latest biennial review of Finnish architecture in a new way. The exhibition “Sustainability in a Finnish Small-scale Residential Building” offers new perspectives and tips on how to build a home more responsibly. Read more here.
After museum visits, you can spend Sunday at the Pavilion, the WDC Helsinki 2012 public living room, located between the Design Museum and the Museum of Finnish Architecture. Try the delicious treats at the Pavilion café, enjoy Oranssi ry association\'s programme from workshops to acoustic musical performances, especially targeting young visitors, or catch Paviljonki\'s Sunday movie.
