Bremen is the free Hanseatic city, having a status of a federal state. It is located in northern Germany, on both banks of the Weser river, about 60 kilometers away from the North Sea. The city is surrounded by Lower Saxony’s territory from all sides.
Bremen was founded as an Episcopal residence in 787. In 1260, the city entered the Hanseatic League, which enabled it to reduce archbishop’s power and become a free city.
Bremen is a diverse city of rich history, science and high technologies.
In the centre of Bremen there is the Marktplatz market square with the Town Hall and the Cathedral of St. Peter. In front of the Town Hall there is the sculpture, devoted to famous "Bremen Musicians". To the right of the square is the building of the City Parliament (1966). Betthershtrasse (Böttcherstraße) street is just 100 meters long and consists of only 7 houses. In the buildings of XVI th century there are belfry, three museums, art gallery and a theater.
In the center of Bremen there is the City Park (Bürgerpark) with a small zoo, where live domestic animals. And between Bremen and Hanover there is Serengeti Safari Park, where on the territory of more than 200 hectares freely live African animals: rhinos, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and predators - lions, tigers and leopards – behind barely perceptible fences.
One of the world's largest companies to design and manufacture of amusement HUSS Park Attractions (formerly HUSS Mashinenfabrik) is located in Bremen. On the territory of the University of Bremen there is the most interesting museum of science - Universum.
