The city of Corrientes - is the administrative center of the province of Corrientes, located in the north-east of Argentina, between the rivers Parana and Uruguay. This is a port on the left bank of the Parana river. It was founded in 1588. Those days it was called Vera de las Siete Corrientes – “a Land of the seven rivers”. Over time the name was reduced to words Corrientes – “a river”. The city has an international airport, a university, a very interesting museum of the colonial era, history and fine arts, with many eye-catching exhibits. The suspended bridge over the Paraná, the fort and the monastery of St. Francis also attract tourist interest.
